show report (NSR)

Muppet and I attended our first dressage show hosted by NEDA with my friend Alex and her horse Mikey.

We did the Intro test A and B which are basically the first tests and are all walk and trot. It was a fun show and we cleaned up well for it. Here we are warming up to go in the ring (it was very dusty).

Unfortunately Muppet was scared by the judges in the horse trailer at one end of the ring, and took until the end of the second test to calm down . We did improve in marks in our tests coming 6th and then 5th respectfully. I was proud of my horse and look forward to going to another show soon.

In sheep and lamb news the vet and myself are leaning towards chronic heat stress in the lambs. Temps are out of normal range when the weather is hot and hasn't cooled off overnight. Temps go down to normal on the cool mornings. Still no other signs and blood work was all clean. I am hoping for cooler weather soon as it has been a terribly hot, humid and rainless summer. Anyone else ready for Fall?

  1. Thank-you for the show report; I've been waiting eagerly for it! Good job; I'll live the show life vicariously through you.

Good news that the sheep problem is not contagious, although that doesn't help the ones you've lost. We're headed into a heat wave over the weekend, but it isn't humid and the sheep have lots of shade.

  2. So glad things are better with the sheep! I'm actually awake (1:30 am) because the sheep are "talking" alot...had to get up and check things....just the little ones wandering and moms calling them in closer, but I always worry! Llamas were calm and nothing going on....thank goodness.

Congrats for you and Muppet! My nerves were never good for showing (dogs) I almost always had a handler! So call me chicken.... :0(
I envy you your nerves of steel! LOL

  3. Thanks Michelle I got a 55 and 58 in the tests. I invested in box fans for all of the stalls as they are in a run in and out situation right now. Also thank you for the apple butter, it arrived last week and I am looking forward to trying it on bagels for breakfast tomorrow!

Thanks Donna I'm glad they are doing better too. I can't say I wasn't nervous. In the warm up arena I wanted to throw up. It went away in the ring though which was good lol

  4. Oh, Muppet is a beauty! Congrats on how well she did. I'm sure it takes nerves of steel for both horse and rider in that situation! I too am glad that the lambs are suffering from a contagion. This heat is horrible, and I just cross my fingers and do what I can to keep the critters going. I think it's been about three solid months of hot here. I'm looking forward to fall and hope it's long crisp and cool!
